Welcoming Professor Teresa Merino to St Margaret of Scotland Hospice Leadership Team

We are delighted to announce that Professor Teresa Merino joined our senior leadership team as Hospice Medical Director on 1st August 2025.

Professor Merino brings a wealth of experience from her distinguished career in both the UK and Spain. She has served as a Consultant in Specialist Palliative Care across acute hospitals and hospices and played a pivotal role in shaping regional healthcare strategy within the Spanish Government - developing innovative care models and networks across Madrid.

Her dedication to clinical excellence is reflected in her published research, international thought leadership on the meaning and philosophy underpinning palliative care, and her teaching as Associate Professor of Bioethics at the Universidad Catolica de Murcia. Her contributions to medical education have earned prestigious accolades, including the Medical Education Award from the Lilly Foundation and the Complutense University of Madrid.

Professor Merino will lead our medical team, act as the principal liaison with NHSGGC, and play a key role in advancing continuity and quality of care across the region.

This is a significant step for the Hospice, and we are confident that Professor Merino’s leadership will make a lasting impact on palliative care across Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Please join us in extending a warm welcome!
