The Professor John Welsh Specialist Palliative Care Centre
In a heartfelt tribute to the unwavering commitment and profound impact of Professor John Welsh, our newly refurbished St Joseph’s Ward will be named "The Professor John Welsh Specialist Palliative Care Centre."
Sister Rita MBE, Chief Executive of the Hospice, shared the news as the refurbishment nears completion. "I am delighted to announce that we are naming our newly renovated facility in honour of Professor John Welsh. This recognition is a testament to his total commitment to our Hospice and to the field of Palliative Medicine throughout Scotland over many years.”
The decision to honour Professor Welsh was made in consultation with his wife, who provided invaluable support and guidance. Sister Rita emphasised the humility and dedication that have defined Professor Welsh's career: "As you all know, Professor John Welsh is the most humble man you could ever meet, and therefore it is only right that we recognise his immense contribution to the Hospice and beyond."
"In this way, his legacy will be written permanently into the very walls of this Hospice." - Sister Rita
Throughout his distinguished career, Professor Welsh has been celebrated as an inspirational leader, perfect role model, devoted mentor, and educator. Above all, he is known for his gentle, humble nature and the unique care and dignity with which he treats every individual.
Sister Rita underscored the significance of this tribute, stating, "It is not only an expression of how very highly we think of Professor Welsh; it also speaks for every family whose life he has touched, every patient whose hand he has held, and every colleague he has guided with such wisdom and compassion."
