History of the Hospice
What we do

Our Care

Our approach to providing care is holistic, taking into account the spiritual, physical, psychological and social needs of patients.

In-Patient Care

The Hospice provides two units for in-patient care:

- Specialist Palliative Care – St Joseph’s Ward
Hospital-Based Complex Clinical Care – Mary Aikenhead Centre

These units provide care for patients with advanced life-limiting conditions requiring assessment and management of complex symptoms. In addition, patients may require support for complex emotional, social and spiritual needs.

To meet these needs, patients will require the input of the specialist multi-professional team.

Patients may be referred to our Hospice following the criteria available in Referral Guidance.

The aim of care is based on the philosophy and Core Values of the Sisters of Charity:

Respect – Compassion – Advocacy – Quality - Justice
