New Development
Hospice Care - Holistic care of the highest standard
New Legislation 2002
The regulation of Care Bill 2002 which lays down required bed space, indicates that en-suite facilities are desirable and should be in place by 2007
Everyone who needs this care has the right to receive it in its highest form
The Hospice, the first to be opened in Scotland, was established in 1950 as a non-denominational Hospice seeking to provide a standard of care which was not then available.
The present Hospice has 60 beds. Thirty beds are available for the care of older adults with special medical, nursing, and at times, palliative needs - twenty seven palliative care beds and three beds for exceptional cases.
We seek to modernise the older adult unit and refurbish the palliative care unit. £4.6 million is required to achieve this. We have raised £3 million so far. Only another £1.6 million is required to give patients the home they deserve at a difficult time in their lives. After completion we will have more single rooms, some double rooms, occupational therapy and more private areas.
The Board of Directors, staff and volunteers are committed to exceptional, compassionate, patient focused care. As we strive to set new quality standards we work hard to exceed the expectations of our patients and their families.
Our Hospice programmes reach out to hundreds of people each year. Our open access philosophy makes the Hospice available to all who might need us. Do join us in helping to make the Hospice the best it can be for all of those who will avail themselves of our services in the years ahead.
Please visit us at St. Margaret of Scotland Hospice if you have the time. You will be made most welcome.
